A BREEAM Excellent, Specialist Wet Laboratory teaching facility, linked to existing facilities.
The building included open plan laboratories, offices, prep rooms and write up areas. It is the first laboratory of its kind to achieve a BREEAM Excellent Rating. The building incorporates a green 'living wall' rain water recycling and solar panels.
The building plot was steeply sloping, bounded on two sides by access roads and car parking, established landscaping and trees to one gable, and linked to an existing structure along the remaining side. The structural solution chosen allowed the site boundaries to be positioned tight to the building, thereby maximising the footprint and maintaining the site access roads. The scheme delivered open spaces allowing future flexibility of layout.
