Full refurbishment & extension of a 3 storey Victorian Lodging house in Darwen town centre.
The innovative scheme involves the inspection, assessment and reuse where feasible of the existing building structural fabric together with the construction of a 3 storey steel framed extension. The extension needed to reflect the original buildings massing, whilst providing an enclosed central 3 storey atrium streetscape opening the building up to both students and the street. The building provides an exciting new teaching facility under the EFA framework of new schools and Academies.
The scheme was designed to serve the changing needs and aspirations of the local students and to act as a catalyst to create a vibrant sustainable employment opportunity to the local community.
