Refurbishment of privately and Council owned properties to provide modern living spaces and high quality public realm spaces.
WML's role included detailed investigation of the existing structure, design of modifications to allow changes in layout and strengthening as required to accommodate re-roofing and installation of solar panels. The project also included the design of the adopted public realm spaces and highway modifications.
The scheme entailed the refurbishment and internal remodelling of 141 existing terraced houses and the provision of 10 new 'two into one' remodelled 3 and 4 bedroom houses. The second phase comprised the construction of new 3 and 4 bed family houses all with front and rear gardens, off street parking and all provided to minimum Level 4 Code for Sustainable Homes. A new public square was provided as a focal point in the heart of the neighbourhood.
The project was awarded 'Best New Affordable Housing Scheme' at the Housing Excellence Awards.
